World Petroleum Council, Social Excellence Award 2005

PNI and its programme partners have been recognised at the 18th World Petroleum Congress.

In the Small Company Social Responsibility Category, PNI Nigeria was Highly Commended for the Coastal Development Initiative, (now renamed to the Community Development Foundation Initiative), which includes the creation of Community Development Foundations, the establishment of the Institute for Sustainable Development and the 'living universities'.

During the 18th WPC, PNI Nigera's Executive Director, Chief Bill Knight, presented a paper on PNI's Coastal Development Initiative.

In the Large Company Social Excellence Category, the winner was StatOil, the main sponsor of the Akassa Development Foundation, for its ongoing support for the Akassa model of community development: a community project based on substantial local participation.
